Get ready for Christmas shopping!
Living in the Midwest recently compiled a list of European-style Christmas markets to visit throughout the Midwest in 2022. If you are unfamiliar with these types of markets, the article states:
“The legacy of these open-air, old-world markets stretches back centuries, giving local and international artisans a chance to sell their steaming, spiced, glazed, and glassy wares.”
There are eight different markets on Midwest Living’s list, and I’m happy to report that one of them is right here in Iowa! From Thursday December 1st to Saturday December 3rd, the city of Pella will host its second annual Kerstmarkt.
According to the city’s website, the Kerstmarkt was inspired by “cozy” Open air markets in the Netherlands. The event’s Facebook page reveals that individual booths for vendors have been moved to the Molengracht Plaza.
Speaking of sellers, there will be plenty at the Kerstmarkt! If you are looking for something traditional to eat, Wiseman’s Gourmet Waffles sells Stroopwafels, the Pella Kiwanis Club served poffertjes, Vrienden Huis will have Dutch letters, and the Pella Rotary Club serves pancakes. Other providers are e.g Virgin Holland, Messy missys, Custom manufacturing by Janssen, Sir Winslow’s Zoo, De Bloemenhof, Paper baristas, Friesian farmhouse cheese, The Cottage Candle Shop, Bell farm, and more. The event also features live music and other activities.
The Kerstmarkt takes place on December 1st and 2nd from 11am to 8pm and on December 3rd from 10am to 8pm. Participation is free. For the latest updates, visit the event’s Facebook page HERE.
