Have you ever heard of Korean Corn Dogs?
In December, a new restaurant in Iowa called Naughtea officially opened its doors at 1810 SW White Birch Circle in Ankeny. As the name suggests, the restaurant specializes in a variety of teas, including boba tea, but so-called Korean corn dogs are also served.
Korean corn dogs are a popular Korean street food that’s a little different from your typical American corn dog. First of all, the corn dogs don’t have to contain hot dogs or sausages. They can also be filled with mozzarella, rice cakes or seafood. Second, Korean corn dog batter is usually made from rice flour, which is crunchier than the cornmeal batter used to make American corn dogs. And then there’s the coating! According to website ling, “Korean corn dog is coated in panko breadcrumbs, which makes it crunchier. Korean corn dogs can also be topped with cornflakes or ramen. After they are fried to a golden brown color, they are coated in sugar.”
At Naughtea, you can have your Korean Corn Dog stuffed with a hot dog, mozzarella cheese, or a cheese and hot dog combo. Their flavor options are Classic, Potato Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, Hot Cheetos, and Ube Cheese. After Really easyUbe is”a purple yam originally from the Philippines” that has one “slightly nutty, vanilla taste and is often used in desserts.” Naughtea also has a variety of add-ons for its Korean Corn Dogs, including cheese, ketchup, sriracha, sriracha ketchup, and sriracha mayo.
In addition to the corn dogs, Naughtea also has a large selection of tea. the Des Moines Register says there are milk teas, cheese teas, fruit teas and brown sugar teas. The article reads:
“Customers can add cheese foam, boba, mango jelly and other toppings that will make any caffeine junkie forget Starbucks.“
So far, Naughtea has amazing reviews! The restaurant currently has 5 stars on Facebook and many happy customers. Facebook user Sarah Jeter wrote:
“I’m so glad I got to try this place! I’ve tried every corn dog and the strawberry cheese drink. Everything was super delicious, the staff was super nice! I think my favorites are the Ube cheese and the My name is Cheeto, but I also really liked the sweet potato. I’ll definitely be back!”
If you want to go to Ankeny to try Naughtea, the restaurant is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to 5pm and Friday to Sunday from 11am to 8.30pm due to all the hype surrounding the new store Items are sold out early in the day, so follow them on social media for updates HERE.
