Why the State of Iowa will win

The defense is good enough to make this a fight.

There was no luck — or help — on the offensive side, but the Cyclone defense was able to narrowly hold nearly every game with six of the seven losses by seven points or fewer.

TCU may have a strong offense that always finds ways to get through the clutch, but the Cyclone D is brilliant at third downs, allowing just 277 yards per game and is a stone against the run.

Baylor was able to grind the game down a little last week and dominate the time of the possession battle, holding the ball for nearly 34 minutes. It could be worse than that against the leader of the Big 12 in controlling the clock.

Iowa State is 4-1 if it allows fewer than 100 rushing yards per game, and it will be a sellout to prevent the Horned Frogs from making a move. But …

Why TCU will win

The State of Iowa will not ground TCU less than 100 yards.

The offense is too balanced, too explosive on the field and too good at mixing things up. It was held down against Baylor at a season-low 115 yards on the ground, but made up for it with 327 yards through the air.

TCU is amazing at figuring it out. The offense of the State of Iowa is not.

The Cyclones may be the last of the Big 12 on offense, but they can move the ball – the Big 12 are a little off balance with amazing attacks. However, they are TERRIBLE at putting the cookie in the basket – it’s one of the worst red-zone offenses in the nation.

What will happen

TCU will do it again.

The state of Iowa will give the Horned Frogs a major scare, but it will be close as they don’t come through when they get their chances. It does.

TCU will go 12-0 into the Big 12 Championship by going on the goal march they absolutely must have. It does.
