Roger Lee Channel, 79, of Libertyville, died on November 25, 2022 at the Parkview Care Center.

The visit for family and friends will take place on December 5, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Behner Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on December 6, 2022 at Faith United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. John D. Boatman. Burial with military honors will take place at Fell Cemetery in Libertyville, Iowa.

Roger was born on October 7, 1943 in Fairfield, Iowa to Herschel and Mildred Smith Channel. He married Terri Maddix on June 4, 1967 at the Methodist Church in Libertyville, Iowa. They were parents to two children, Ryan Lee and Regan Linn.

Roger grew up south of Libertyville and has lived in the Libertyville area his entire life. He graduated from 8th grade in Libertyville and Fairfield High School with the class of 1962. After high school in October 1962 he enlisted in the Army. Roger was based in Verona, Italy from 1963-1965 and toured parts of Europe with the Pistol Team from 1963-1964.

After returning from service, he attended Parsons College, where he worked for a time in the clerk’s office. Roger worked for Louden Machinery Company, John Morrell & Company and remained with ACCO Chain and Lifting until his retirement in 2001. He then worked as a caretaker at Pence Elementary School until his retirement in 2009.

Roger was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and served as a trustee. He was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a member of the National Rifle Association since 1969. Roger’s interest in horses began at a young age. He got his first horse at age 10 and continued to own and breed Registered Quarter Horses with his wife on the farm south of Libertyville.

Some of Rogers other interests were boating, working with horses, landscaping with his wife, watching and feeding the birds, but most of all traveling especially to see grandchildren.

Roger will be missed by his 55-year-old wife Terri; Kinder, Ryan (Amanda) Channel of Glenelg, MD, and Regan (Kellee) of Kilbourn, IA; three grandchildren, Owen, Reese and Serenity; Sister Mary Ann (Larry) Eklund of Libertyville; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, Herschel and Mildred Channel, preceded him in death; Nephew, Mark Eklund.
