Police Officer Job – Mason City Police

The City of Mason City is accepting applications for the Public Service hiring list of police officers requiring a physical ability test and written exam for non-certified officers. The list generated from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time police officer positions with the Mason City Police Department.

We offer a very competitive pay scale starting at $60,902 for non-certified officers. Increased salary for Iowa-certified officers up to $81,000 per year based on years of law enforcement experience. In addition, we offer a $2,000 annual stipend for all officers who choose to purchase a home to live in Mason City.

  • $5,000 relocation package or $9,000 for certified officers if currently residing outside the 30-mile residency limit.

Minimum requirements:

  • 21 years of age or older at the time of hiring.

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Valid state driver’s license and acceptable driver’s license

  • Not being addicted to drugs or alcohol (Chapter 400.17 of the Iowa Code).

  • No criminal convictions.

  • No disqualifying offenses in the past seven years.

  • Meet the physical and visual requirements of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA).

  • Non-Certified Officers – Pass the written POST test and the physical fitness test required by ILEA.

  • Certified Officers – are required to take the physical agility test for baseline purposes only and are not required to take the written POST test.

  • After the offer, pass a physical/drug test, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.

  • Live within 30 miles of Mason City within six months of rental. Officials who choose to purchase a home to live in Mason City will receive a $2,000 annual stipend.

The written POST and physical agility test will be conducted on the morning of January 7, 2023 with subsequent job interviews in the afternoon for successful candidates. Candidates will receive more details about the tests as the call close date approaches and an application is received.
