This is a fantastic time to remind you that drinking and driving is never wise. It’s dangerous and illegal. When I was younger I was always taught that if you drink and drive you can kill yourself or worse, kill someone else. Imagine trying to sleep at night for the rest of your life, knowing that you did this to someone else. Pretty creepy stuff.
According to KWWL, there was a 21-year-old woman who was pulled over on Highway 218. This is where the details of this story get pretty crazy. She was pulled over after driving at 103 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Not only was she going 38 mph over the top speed, but she also had a blood alcohol count of .421. That is 5 times the legal limit. She was sent to prison and there were several other violations as well. If your night is going to involve alcohol, make sure you have a plan for the end of the night. Call a Lyft, take a sober cab, stay at the person’s home, or walk. If you have a plan for the night, you won’t get into that late-night panic mode of trying to find a way home and committing to driving when you shouldn’t.
Just to be clear before I go any further, let me remind you one more time don’t drink and drive. It’s illegal, dangerous, and can kill people. I’m all for going out and having a good time. It’s fun, it’s a great way to let go and spend time socializing. Just make sure you have a plan on how to get home or where to stay. Now that we get that part straight… what on earth was this girl thinking?
If you’re driving over 5 times the legal limit, you know exactly how drunk you are and that you shouldn’t be behind the wheel. There’s no “I’ve had two beers, I’m fine” excuse.” You’re pretty drunk by this point. Not only that, but if you’re going to get behind the wheel after drinking, why not do your best to obey all traffic laws to follow and drive as safely as possible? If you’re driving 103 mph at 65, you’ll get pulled over, even if you’re perfectly sober. Driving 103 mph drunk is downright stupid… yikes.
It’s important to remember that no one was hurt in this situation and that people make mistakes. There’s no good excuse for going over the legal limit 5x, but luckily the 21-year-old now just needs to learn how the court system works.
