MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin — It took overtime Saturday night to decide a goalie duel between the Iowa Wild and the Milwaukee Admirals, with Kiefer Sherwood scoring the winning goal for Milwaukee after 1:26 of the extra frame. Hunter Jones had 26 saves for Iowa in the 2-1 loss while Devin Cooley had 28 saves for Milwaukee.

The goalkeepers dominated the first half and kept the competition scoreless for 20 minutes, with Jones stopping 11 shots and Cooley turning 13 aside. Jones made the biggest save for the Wild with just over 13 minutes to play in the period when he denied Tommy Apap the breakaway with the blocker.

Familiarity breeds contempt for Iowa and Milwaukee in their second game in 24 hours as Turner Ottenbreit struggled against Apap in the first period. Brandon Baddock and Kevin Gravel faced off after a whistle midway through game two, sparking a skirmish between the other players on the ice.

Nick Swaney broke the deadlock at 4:11 in the second period. After stepping out of the crease to clear the puck, Cooley huffed on a clear attempt that allowed Swaney to put the puck in the empty net and give Iowa a 1-0 lead.

The Wild carried a 1-0 lead into the second break, leading the Admirals 25-16.

Milwaukee finally scored at 8:33 of the third period when Jachym Kondelik diverted a Marc Del Gaizo point shot past Jones to level the score at 1-1.

Iowa and Milwaukee went 1-1 into overtime, with the Wild leading the shot count 28-27.

Sherwood scored the game-winning goal after 1:26 of overtime with a breakaway chance on Jones. After Jimmy Huntington found Sherwood behind the Wild defense, Sherwood used his backhand to hit Jones and earn the extra point for the Admirals.

The Wild passed the Admirals 29-28. Iowa went 0-for-3 with man advantage while Milwaukee didn’t make a power play.

Iowa travels to the Allstate Arena on Sunday, November 20th to take on the Chicago Wolves at 3:00 p.m
