Breakfast with Santa Claus

The Iowa Valley Elementary PTO is hosting a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 3 from 8:00 am to 10:30 am in the Iowa Valley Elementary Cafeteria. Volunteer donations benefit the IV Elementary PTO.

Santa Claus Dinner

The American Legion Post 76, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 76 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 76 are hosting their annual Santa Claus Supper at American Legion Hall on Saturday, December 3rd. Served from 4pm to 7pm, a bar is available. Meals are $10 and include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, veggies, and a bun; Serving is for eat-in, take-out, or city delivery. A raffle will be held for the quilt raffle.

Amana Christmas dinner

A traditional Amana Christmas dinner will be served on Saturday, December 3rd at the Communal Kitchen Museum in Middle Amana. This museum houses the only intact communal kitchen of 55 that served in the Amanas during the communal era.

After the meal, guests can take a tour of the Ruedy Home and learn about Amana’s Christmas traditions. The house will be decorated for the holidays, displaying decorations and traditions from both the communal era and subsequent decades.

Library silent auction

Williamsburg’s Friends of the Library are planning a silent auction for Christmas gifts. Anyone with donations is asked to contact the library at (319) 668-1195. The auction will open on November 28th at 10am and will end on Saturday December 10th at 1pm

Arts Guild artist demos

On Saturdays in November and December, the Amana Arts Guild gallery’s principal artists will demonstrate their work. Artists scheduled are: Nov. 25, David Garman, paintings; 26 November, Paulette Buckingham, paintings; December 3, Katie Otto, Wheat Weaving; December 10, Jeanne Dudley, baskets and brooms; December 17, Paulette Buckingham, paintings.

Christmas parade

Marengo Community Development will host a Christmas Parade Square on Saturday December 3rd to open Jingle Around the Square. Floats are being sought to participate and registration information can be found on the City of Marengo’s Facebook page.

The parade begins at 4:45 p.m. The route begins at the intersection of Court Avenue and W. Lucas St. The parade travels south on Court Avenue, then east on E. Hilton Street, north on Marengo Avenue, and continues west on E. Main Street, to stop at the North Pole (City Hall) where kids can grab their jingle bags and start jingle around the square.

Amana House Tour

The Amana Arts Guild is hosting a Christmas House Tour on December 3rd and 4th. More information will appear in next week’s issue.

Santa Claus is planning a visit to Marengo

The Friends of Marengo (The Haunted Barn) are bringing Santa Claus and his merry friends to town on Saturday December 17th. Santa Claus and his friends will stop in both Marengo and Ladora and distribute gifts to children. He has received a generous donation of toys to give out. More details will follow, including stop times and locations.

Sale of used books

The Amana Library sells used books on an ongoing basis in the magazine room: Monday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The range includes cookbooks, gardening, romance, fiction, non-fiction and children’s books.
