Iowa Football Commitments take center stage this Friday as the future Hawkeyes look to take home the state championships at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls.
Here are the future Hawkeyes that will be on the field.
Class 2A – 10:00 am
Williamsburg and Central Lyon/George Little Rock will face off in Friday’s first state title game. They are the only two remaining undefeated teams in Class 2A and have a perfect 12-0 this year.
For Williamsburg, the headliner is the Iowa 2024 three-star linebacker commit Derek Weisskopf. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Weisskopf plays both wide receiver and safety for the Raiders and has a semifinal win over Dubuque Wahlert Catholic, where he had eight receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
Weisskopf committed to the Hawkeyes this winter via Wisconsin, Iowa State and others.
For CLGLR, it’s spearheaded by the three-star defensive back out of Iowa Zach Lummer. The 2023 signing plays both ways for the Lions, including the quarterback position. Lutmer had a big win in the semifinals against OABCIG when he completed 6 of 13 passes for 98 yards, one touchdown and one interception with 28 carries for 269 yards, three touchdowns and also one interception on defense.
Class 3A – 1:00 p.m
The Class 3A game will feature Harlan and Mount Vernon.
The Cyclones are 11-1 for the year, their only loss coming in the season opener against Lewis Central in Thursday’s Class 4A state title game, but Harlan hasn’t lost since.
Mount Vernon goes into this game with an unbeaten record of 12-0.
The headliner in this competition is Harlan, a three-star athlete and Iowa oblige Aidan Hall. The future Hawkeye, who could play in multiple positions in Iowa City, had 20 carries for 242 yards and four touchdowns in the semifinals win over ADM. Hall also had seven receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown in the win. Hall also defends Harlan in the secondary school and the Mustangs will try to stop him, which is no easy feat as you can see in the embedded video above.
Class 5A – 7:30pm
Many expected this duel to be between Southeast Polk, Ankeny or Dowling, but only one of those teams spoke up.
Southeast Polk will be looking to make it a second straight Class 5A state championship on Friday when the Rams take on West Des Moines Valley, who go into this contest with an 8-4 record and as one of Cinderella’s tales in the state playoffs this year applies.
The headliner for Southeast Polk is Iowa’s five-star offensive line Kadyn Proctor while the Rams also boast an athlete commitment from the state of Iowa Abu Samaalong with 2024 quarterback Conner Moberly, who is holding a bid from northern Iowa.
In Valley, the Tigers have one of the state’s best playmakers in the two-star athlete Ayden price, who holds offers from Dartmouth, Air Force and Army, along with a favorite walk-in clientele from Iowa. Valley also has one of the best prospects for 2025 in the state with Zay Robinson at wide receiver.
