In-state commits end high school careers at the top with state titles

Here’s how the future Hawkeyes fared this weekend.


OIL Kadyn ProctorSoutheast Polk won the Class 5A State Championship and Proctor had one of his best performances on the offensive line for the Rams. SEP had nearly 600 total yards in offense and 434 rushing yards as a team, including 372 rushing yards and six touchdowns from Iowa State Commit Abu Sama. The Rams are Class 5A champions for the second year in a row.

OIL Trevor LauckIndianapolis (Ind.) Roncalli fell 24-21 to East Central in the semi-state game to end Lauck’s high school career. Roncalli had 200 rushing yards as a team.

DL Chase BrackneyEnglewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek defeated ThunderRidge 42-7 to advance to the CHSAA Class 5A State Semifinals to face Pine Creek. Coming into this contest, Brackney had 57 tackles, seven tackles to a loss, six sacks and two forced fumbles in the year.

DL Kenneth MerrieweatherDetroit (Mich.) King defeated Mason, 52-17, to advance to the state championship against Muskegon.

ATH Aidan HallHarlan trailed 23-7 in the second half of the Class 3A State Championship game, but Hall and the Cyclones came back and won the game 30-23. Hall doubled all afternoon and finished the game with eight carries for 26 yards and a touchdown. He had three receptions for 12 yards with four tackles, three solos and a half tackle for a loss on defense.

DB Zach LummerLutmer and Central Lyon/George-Little Rock defeated Williamsburg 10-6 in the Class 2A State Finals. Lutmer completed 7 of 13 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 140 yards on 29 carries. He also had four tackles.

WR Jarriet BuieTampa (Fla.) Jesuit defeated Tampa Gaither, 45-10 to advance to the next round of the FHSAA State Tournament. Buie had four receptions for 89 yards in the win. Jesuit will play Largo next week for a chance to reach the state semifinals.

RB Kamari MoultonCardinal Gibbons of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., defeated Calvary Christian Academy 43-27 to advance to the next round of the state playoffs. Moulton had

OIL Kade PieperNorfolk Catholic defeated Cedar Catholic 23-0 in Tuesday’s Class C2 State Championship game. Pieper had seven tackles, five solo, two tackles for a loss and two sacks.


LB Derek WeisskopfWilliamsburg fell to Lutmer and CL/GLR in the Class 2A title game. Weisskopf didn’t record offensive stats but had a strong game on defense with 10.5 tackles including six solos.
