With regular volunteers going on vacations, Knock and Drop Iowa is looking for additional volunteers to help out in the pantry. Volunteers helped set up the pantry line, greeted visitors, replenished groceries as needed, and cleaned up.

Orchard Place Holiday Drive

Do you want to make a child’s dream come true? Get involved with Orchard Place Holiday Drive to help the organization bring holiday magic to up to 1,000 kids on the Des Moines subway.

Sign up to give a Christmas present to a child in need, or donate cash and/or gift cards to ensure every family gets a gift.

  • When: Registration closes December 9th, all gifts must be returned by December 14th

Christmas dinner for single moms

The Single Moms Christmas Dinner is an opportunity for single mothers and their children to relax and have a special night. Single parent care needs 400 volunteers to hold the event.

This is the 11th year that the organization has hosted the event. In addition to volunteering in person, you can also choose to sponsor a family, purchase gift bag items, fill a blessing bag, or make a financial donation.

  • When: Thursday, December 10 (4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.)
  • Where: Community Choice Convention Center

Volunteers are needed at the New Directions Shelter to prepare for the holiday season.

Responsibilities include organizing, cleaning and preparing rooms in the shelter. Your efforts will help families staying at New Directions have a clean, safe place to celebrate.

Waukee Area Christian Services Gift of Food

Help Waukee Area Christian Ministries give away food this holiday season.

The organization hopes to provide complete Christmas meals and gifts to more than 200 families across Waukee.

West Dse Moines Human Services Holiday Assistance Program

Make a difference by supporting this nonprofit organization dedicated to providing service to those in need across West Des Moines. Give back in a way that fits your schedule by “adopting a family”, donating new toys or gift cards, providing a grocery gift card to help with a holiday dinner, or making a cash donation to the department.

  • When: Deadline for family adoption is Thursday 1 December; other options exist during the holiday season
