In late June of that year, five-star recruit and top offensive tackle in the country Kadyn Proctor made his decision to play for Kirk Ferentz and Iowa. Southeast Polk’s product had Hawkeye fans everywhere dizzy with excitement at its eventual arrival on campus.
Now he scares them.
After his decision to enlist, Proctor was still bombarded with messages from coaches wanting him to rescind his enlistment and choose another school. At first it sounded like other coaches were simply making a last-ditch effort to try and get a five-star player to reconsider.
After Proctor paid an official visit to the University of Oregon last weekend, that could be a reality.
At least that’s what Justin Hopkins, who reports on Ducks recruiting for On3.com, believes. The former writer for ESPN and 247Sports is so sure of it that he reversed his prediction on the recruitment website, saying that Proctor will not sign with the Hawkeyes but will instead decide to turn his back on his stint and play college football in Eugene, Oregon .
It wasn’t just Hopkins, either. A writer for Yahoo! Sports claims the visit to Eugene went well: “I’ve heard Proctor enjoyed his visit to Eugene and is still considering the Ducks, although a flip may not be a certainty just yet.”
Additionally, Steve Wiltfong, 247Sports’ director of recruitment, spoke about Proctor’s visit to the site’s recruitment podcast. This is what he had to say:
Speaking to some other people, they say Kadyn is just trying to make sure Iowa is the right decision for him and that he still holds Iowa in very, very high regard. … I don’t know if Kadyn has big concerns about Iowa City’s long-term future, but I think he’s excited about Oregon and has been visiting. He’s stayed in touch with the Duck staff and likes the way we’re going to build this program. Oregon certainly got into the equation here. Time will tell what will happen.
Wiltfong added that the visit had been in the works for a while, but Iowa staffers were unaware of it.
