Clark scores 33 points as the No. 4 Iowa Women’s defeats Belmont 73-62

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark posted a season-high 33 points and No. 4 Iowa pulled away late to defeat Belmont 73-62 on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes (4-1), who entered the game in fourth place nationally with 94.2 points, were held at a season low. Except for Clark, no other Iowa player scored in double figures.

“They really slowed the game down, which is why our score was so low,” said Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. “We didn’t have as much possession as usual in the game. It’s a good way to defend ourselves – we can’t score if we don’t have the ball in our hands.”

Clark was listed as a tag after suffering an ankle injury in the final game of Thursday’s 84-83 loss at Kansas State. But she played almost 31 minutes on Sunday.

“It was the normal swelling and bruising, but not a lot of pain,” Clark said. “So I knew I could go today, which was good because I definitely didn’t want to sit out. ”
