WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The 2022 FIFA World Cup has officially begun as the tournament kicked off with the Opening Ceremony early Sunday morning.
Under the motto “Bridging Distances”, the host country Qatar received musical guests such as Jung Kook from BTS and the Qatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi.
Qatar has faced controversy over its status as a host country over its treatment of migrant workers who built football stadiums and its criminalization of the LGBTQ community. After the opening ceremony, Qatar lost to Ecuador, the first host team in 92 years to lose the opening game.
The United States drew 1-1 with Wales in their first game. Their final two Group B games are on Friday, November 25 against England (1pm CT on FOX) and Tuesday, November 29 against Iran (1pm CT on FOX).

If you want to support the Brazilian national team, West Des Moines’ Brazil Terra is the place to be. The local Brazilian restaurant is hosting a watch party for the Brazil vs Switzerland game on Monday, November 28 at 10:00 am
Enjoy some classic Brazilian dishes while watching the game.

In partnership with the Latino Trade Network and Pro Iowa, El Fogon will host a Mexico-Saudi Arabia watch party. The game is scheduled for Wednesday November 30th, with the event starting at 10am
Those who register for the event will receive complimentary appetizers and two drink tickets. Participation in the watch party is free of charge.
The Latino Trade Network is part of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce. The network is designed for Latin American entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals to find a community and collaborate.

The West Des Moines Pub hosts watch parties for Team USA during the group stage.

In partnership with Pro Iowa and Des Moines Menace, this Waukee brewery will be hosting multiple watch parties. The first will take place on Saturday 26th November and will feature Mexico vs Argentina. The event starts at 11 a.m., the game starts at 1 p.m
There will be live music and a taco truck. The Watch Party is free and first come, first served.
